Criteria for determining the above data was from either the manufacturer’s website, in phone calls, emails with the manufacturer or in their dealer literature. Prices were listed as either factory websites or discounted online pet retailers. Warranties were very similar - either one year or two years - excluding motor brushes and wear and tear on the dryer and accessories.
From the above chart, you can see that there are some good deals on variable speed dryers compared to a few years ago when all of them were around $300.00 to start.
The best value we identified was from Dog Shammy (http://www.dogshammy.com). Their US made dryers with commercial duty hose and low-speed start variable speed are hard to beat for home use and pet salon use. We also were able to speak directly to their engineer since they are US based. The double K dryer came in second but, without the ability to qualify country of origin, we put them a distant second. Their optional heater also concerned us. Our criteria for US made was it has to specifically note it in their literature and on their website. Ideally, the manufacturers would supply us with a percentage of US/Canada Made components. Where are their hoses made? Where is their housings molded or painted? In what country does their molded nozzles come from?
Addendum: If you are looking for a dryer and your dog has a smooth coat, be sure to read up on the patent-pending Smoothcoat Technology that Dog Shammy has now available. We were able to test a unit with this new technology on our retriever and the difference was startling.
